Jump Recruitment is currently seeking candidates for the permanent, full-time position of Operations Manager – Transportation Division for our client, Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador, based in St. John’s, NL, Canada.

The Dairy Farmers of Newfoundland and Labrador (DFNL) is a non-government organization and was established in 1983. Our organization is responsible for managing the production and marketing of milk in the province and works to ensure Dairy Farmers are protected as it relates to national and provincial policies and legislation. Additionally, we work closely in collaboration with the School Milk Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador, a non-profit organization, committed to increasing milk consumption in schools across the province. THE ROLE:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Operations Manager – Transportation Division is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day milk collection, scheduling, and deliveries within the Province of NL. As a new department within the organization, you will focus your time ensuring a high level of customer service in transportation of dairy throughout the province, ensuring cost effectiveness, timely deliveries, and adherence with provincial legislation and policies.

 KEY FUNCTIONS:

  • Strategy Development and Oversight – Assist with the development and implementation of DFNL’s transportation division and strategic operational plan which includes policy and process creation, stakeholder management, and financial oversight. Look for strategic realignments or replacements for better milk movement optimization and recommend changes for continuous improvement. Research federal and provincial legislation, becoming the resident expert in policy and process within the industry.
  • Day-to-Day Operations Management – Serve as the primary contact for NL dairy farmers, producers, and processors. Schedule and manage weekly collection and deliveries between producers and processors. Provide oversight and management of producer and production quotas, trailer/equipment insurance, maintenance, and service requirements. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including dairy farmers, processors, and other transport management services, to optimize delivery times, resolve scheduling, logistical and delivery issues, and special deliveries.
  • Stakeholder / Relationship Management – Develop and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders, liaising with dairy farmers and processors, government officials, and other Dairy boards. Participate in Dairy Farmers of Canada, Dairy Farmers of NL, and industry meetings, presenting and conveying DFNL’s values and promoting a positive industry image. Collaborate with federal and provincial regulatory bodies to drive initiatives that improve milk production, sales, and marketing in the province.
  • Finance Oversight and Reporting – Assist with the development and oversight of budget planning and processes for the transportation division including managing all operational revenues and expenses. Negotiate, evaluate, and set transportation rates. Prepare and distribute various operational and financial reports as it relates to transportation.

 OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in logistics, supply chain, agriculture, or related field.
  • 2 to 3 years experience in a logistics, order processing and/or transportation role.
  • Experience working in operations, a regulatory, and/or policy-driven environment is considered an asset.
  • Strong leadership abilities including excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong budgetary knowledge and experience in financial controls and tracking.
  • Excellent skills in problem-solving, decision making, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills including the ability to work independently and as a team.
  • Proficient in desktop computers and MS Office software applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of milk transportation including allocation in NL, agriculture and/or dairy industry (both federally and provincially) would be considered assets.
  • A combination of equivalent education, training, and work experience in a related position will be considered.
