Jump Recruitment, on behalf of our client, St. John’s Dockyard Limited (NEWDOCK), is seeking a Financial Controller to join their team. This is a full time, permanent position based in St. John’s.

NEWDOCK is a ship repair facility located in St. John’s Harbour with an operating history of almost 140 years. The Company repairs, upgrades and services all types of vessels from a very diverse marine sector including, provincial ferries, Canadian Coast Guard fleets, offshore supply vessels, aquaculture vessels, commercial tugboats, barges and fishing vessels. Newdock’s highly skilled and dedicated workforce has serviced over 600 vessels in the past 10 years.

The Financial Controller will manage all financial and accounting operations for this ship repair, offshore fabrication, and heavy industrial fabrication business in accordance with all applicable legislation, regulations, codes, professional standards, company policies, procedures and objectives.


  • Management of all accounting and finance team responsibilities including full cycle revenue recognition, payment and procurement, general ledger maintenance, project cost accounting, inventory accounting and control, capital asset and expenditure control, and reporting;
  • Full treasury responsibility including liaison with banks and creditors;
  • Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements complete with working paper support;
  • Management of internal controls sufficient to provide reliable financial reporting and control of company assets;
  • Preparation of job cost and corporate budgets as well as cash flow forecasts;
  • Support of project bid specification compliance (Workers’ Compensation compliance certificates, insurance certificates, etc.);
  • Preparation and compliance reporting for local, province, and federal tax requirements and other regulatory filings;
  • The administration of payroll for management and unionized team members including related employee benefit programs;
  • Preparation of information as required by compliance audits and liaison with auditors;
  • Management and maintenance of corporate information technology systems;
  • Coordination and renewal of annual insurance for both infrastructure and project specific obligations;
  • Supporting the management team for revenue contract administration including invoicing, warrantee claims and legal claims; and
  • Other standard finance and accounting duties as required.


  • Graduation from a recognized post-secondary institution in accounting, commerce, or business administration with a CPA designation, or equivalent; and
  • 5+ years’ experience in accounting and financial management.
