Associate Veterinarian – Small Animals

As an Associate Veterinarian at our clinic, you will have flexible workdays, and flexible responsibilities (e.g., you will not be required to perform surgeries if you choose not to). NO EVENING OR WEEKEND SHIFTS, 5 WEEKS PAID LEAVE, RELOCATION ALLOWANCE, FLEXIBLE WORKDAYS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties Include (but not limited to):

  • Performs physical examinations on patients; diagnoses physical condition and presents diagnostic, treatment and healthcare options to the client
  • Performs medical, surgical, and dental procedures; provides emergency services in accordance with hospital requirements
  • Interprets the results of laboratory and diagnostic procedures to determine the appropriate Healthcare protocol based on the results; reads radiographs and interprets EKGs and EEGs; prescribes medications
  • Administers anesthetics and monitors patients during surgery and recovery with the assistance of the technical team
  • Follows discharge guidelines for hospitalized and post-surgery patients and treatment plan guidelines for clients to ensure proper patient treatment in the home environment, including client follow up post hospitalization
  • Conducts call back/follow-up appointments with clients; recommends medical progress visits when appropriate
  • Answers client questions and provides education on various aspects of animal care and treatment
  • Directly communicates with clients who have expressed concerns /complaints when asked to do so by management
  • Promptly and accurately updates client records
  • Plans and carries out a significant program of personal medical continuing education
  • Actively supports clinic communication based on transparency and integrity with clients and colleagues
  • Contributes to a positive, supportive, safe work environment.
  • Humanely euthanizes animals when it has been mutually agreed upon by thepatient’s owner.
  • Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs and patient record accurately and in a timely manner
  • Trains and supervises team members who handle and care for animals; as needed.
  • Addresses clients and employees in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact and professionalism; promotes the concept of the client-centered environment
  • Provides guidance and leadership to the healthcare team that will positively influence the level of care and service
  • Participates in business development as instructed by management and/or ownership
  • Attends monthly team meetings and other pertinent in-house training.

 

Education and Licensure Requirements:

  • Valid DVM license held in good standing with national and provincial requirements
  • Successful completion of the Navle Board Exam
  • Minimum 1 year experience preferred.
  • Follow federal and provincial animal health laws and regulations including OSHA
